Moldovan head of state attends Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit, hosted by Ukrainian president in Odessa

President Maia Sandu today participated in the Ukraine-Southeast Europe Summit, hosted by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Odessa. Leaders from the region assembled, in order to reaffirm their strong support for Ukraine, which is fighting not only for its freedom, but also for peace in the region.

In her speech, the head of state emphasized that Ukraine's security was essential for the security of the entire Europe. “This war is not just about Ukraine. It is about the future of Europe. Moreover, it is about the rules-based global order,” said President Maia Sandu.

The Moldovan president drew attention to the boosting of the hybrid attacks coming from Russia: manipulation, disinformation, energy blackmail, infiltration in democratic processes. Maia Sandu reiterated Moldova’s commitment to contribute to the joint effort to defend democracies in the face of hybrid aggressions.

The president of Moldova highlighted that these actions aimed to undermine democracies and divert support for Ukraine. She warned that “Russia undermines democracies, exploits freedoms, in order to bring to power those who will no longer stand with Ukraine.”
