Approved by Government: Voluntary amalgamation of localities in Leova and Fălești
Two groups of villages in Leova and Fălești have undergone the stages of the voluntary amalgamation process, and as a result, the Government approved today the modification of the administrative-territorial organization of the Republic of Moldova.
The first group of administrative-territorial units consists of the town of Leova and the villages of Sîrma, Tochile-Răducani, and Sărata-Răzeși from Leova district. The second group is made up of the village of Călinești, the commune of Chetriș, and the village of Hîncești, Fălești district.
State Secretary of the Government Ana Calinici stated that the amalgamation of these municipalities will bring more direct investments in local infrastructure, such as water supply systems, roads, sewer systems, sanitation, and will enhance access to national and European funds for concrete projects.
“Also, people will access public services more easily through single service centers in each locality. To reflect the newly formed units, we propose to amend the Law on administrative-territorial organization. This initiative is an investment in people, in stronger communities, and in the future of the Republic of Moldova,” said Ana Calinici.
The territories of the relevant administrative-territorial units from Leova and Fălești form a continuous territorial space, having common borders without enclaves or other territorial discontinuities, which ensures the essential territorial cohesion for efficient administration and optimal management of common resources, as mentioned in the informative note of the project.
Voluntary amalgamation represents the process of voluntary merging of two or more first-level administrative-territorial units, based on the decisions of the respective local councils, complying with the basic conditions, criteria, and procedure provided by this law.
