European Commission to release first installment of 270 million euros from the Growth Plan for Moldova
The European Commission will release the first instalment of 270 million euros from the Growth Plan for Moldova, with a total value of 1.9 billion euros. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen made statements to this effect in her speech given at the first Moldova-European Union Summit, held in Chisinau on July 4.
“Today, I can announce the release of the first 270 million euros under the Growth Plan for Moldova. You showed results on reforms and we are delivering the results promised on our behalf, to support this application of 1.9 billion euros,” said von der Leyen.
The European official emphasized that, in parallel with the opening of accession negotiations, the European Union was accelerating the economic integration of Moldova into the Single Market. Thus, as of October 2025, the country will complete integration into the SEPA system – enabling faster and cheaper transfers in euros, with direct benefits for citizens and businesses.
“And finally, we will remove all roaming costs. From our experience, it is an extraordinary way to connect people and businesses,” added the President of the European Commission.
In the end of her speech, Ursula von der Leyen conveyed a message of solidarity:
“Moldova has a place in our European family. The European Union is already here – in the minds and hearts of the people.”
Today, Moldova and the European Union organized the first bilateral Moldova-EU Summit in Chisinau, a landmark event that marks an important stage in the relations between the two parties and strengthens their common commitments for peace, security, prosperity and European integration.
The Joint Declaration, adopted by the leaders of both parties, reaffirmed that Moldova's future is in the European Union, and the progress made in the reform process is recognized and encouraged by European partners. The Summit took place in the context of security challenges generated by the Russian Federation's military aggression against Ukraine and at a crucial moment for Moldova's European path.
