President at anniversary of Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova
President Maia Sandu participated today in the event dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova (CALM). The head of state congratulated the representatives of local administrations and thanked those who work with patience, dedication, and with their heart close to the community.
“I know well that each of you carries the concerns of an entire community on your shoulders. People come to the mayor with any problem – whether it's for roads, water, schools, or heating in kindergartens. Thank you for staying close to people, for listening to their concerns, and trying every day to find solutions. I know how difficult your role is,” Maia Sandu said.
The president emphasized the essential role of CALM in strengthening local democracy, promoting decentralization, and supporting local public authorities across the country. Additionally, the head of state highlighted that, in recent years, the government has been a fair partner to local administrations, allocating resources based on the real needs of the communities,
“Numbers speak for themselves. In 2022–2024, over 1,600 local projects were launched and implemented, just through the programs European Village I and II, with a total value of over 5 billion lei,” said the head of state.
The Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova is a non-political organization, established in 2010, representing local public authorities from the Republic of Moldova. CALM was created to unite all local authorities into a single representative structure, regardless of political orientation, and to promote democratic and efficient local administration.
