Germany to support development of military infrastructure in Moldova
Moldova will benefit from support and consultancy within the German Government's Equipment Assistance Program for Foreign Armed Forces, according to a bilateral agreement signed between the governments of Moldova and of Germany. The parliament’s foreign policy and European integration commission issued a positive opinion on the document and will propose its ratification in at parliament’s plenary meeting.
The agreement, signed in Berlin on May 15, 2025, stipulates the providing of non-lethal military assistance to strengthen the logistical, medical and technical capacities of the National Army, in order to ensure peace and security at the national and regional levels.
Modern equipment and strategic training
German support will include:
Mobile camp equipment for logistics;
Equipment for military medical points;
Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and operative personnel training;
Construction of a technical maintenance center;
Renovation of ammunition storage spaces;
Creation of a single IT network for the National Army.
The programme does not include deliveries of weapons or ammunition, nor permanent combat training. It is exclusively about non-combat support, focusing on the development of military infrastructure and technical skills.
Bundeswehr’s advisory group in Moldova
The implementation of the programme will be coordinated by a Bundeswehr advisory group, which will be deployed to Moldova for a four-year period. They will work directly with national authorities for the smooth running of the projects. Funding will be provided by the German Federal Foreign Office, and the Federal Ministry of Defense will handle the personnel component.
A sustainable partnership
Military cooperation between Moldova and Germany started in 2003 with the signing of the first agreement in this field. Subsequently, Germany launched an international programme of counseling, training and equipping partner states, with the aim of helping them strengthen their defense capabilities transparently and democratically.
The ratification of this new agreement marks a significant step in strengthening the Moldova-Germany strategic partnership in the field of security and reconfirms Germany's support for the development of Moldova’s armed forces, in line with European standards.
