Moldovans with Romanian citizenship expected for third day to vote for Romania's president
Moldovans with Romanian citizenship are expected for the third consecutive day to cast their votes in Romania's presidential elections. For this purpose, 64 polling stations have been opened in our country, starting at 07:00. Voters can vote until 21:00.
“The third day of voting has begun on this side of the Prut. All 64 polling stations were opened, and Romanian citizens who have not voted yet are responsibly fulfilling their constitutional right and civic duty,” announced the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova.
The voting process in the diaspora, including in the Republic of Moldova, lasts for three days. It took place on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, and continues today, May 18.
In the two voting days, Friday and Saturday, Moldovans with Romanian citizenship reached a new record of 75,000 people present at the polls.
The 64 polling stations opened in the Republic of Moldova are distributed across the entire country. Thus, 18 polling stations are open in the North region, 38 in the Center region, including 20 in Chisinau, and 8 polling stations in the South region.
In Romania's presidential elections, 965 polling stations have been opened abroad. Romanian citizens residing abroad on election day can vote, regardless of whether or not they have a domicile or residence outside the country. Romanian citizens in the diaspora have three days available to vote.
The voting process is taking place in Romania today. Nearly 19,000 polling stations opened on Sunday at 7:00, and almost 18 million voters are expected to elect president.
Two candidates are running in the presidential race: AUR party candidate George Simion and independent candidate Nicușor Dan.
