
Two PACE co-rapporteurs to visit Chișinău
Co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the Republic of Moldova Pierre-Alain Fridez and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica will visit our country on 26-28 May. The purpose of the visit is to assess Moldova's compliance with the obligations and commitments it has taken on as a member state of the Council of Europe.
According to the parliament's communication and public relations department, the two officials will look into recent political developments and preparations for this year's parliamentary elections.
The discussion agenda includes topics such as judicial reform, the fight against corruption, the respect for human rights, freedom of expression, democratic oversight and parliamentary cooperation.
During the visit, the co-rapporteurs are scheduled to meet with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Speaker Igor Grosu. The European officials will also hold discussions with parliamentary faction representatives.
The co-rapporteurs will also meet with members of the legal committee on rules and immunities, the Parliament's delegation to PACE and representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, General Prosecutor's Office, Intelligence and Security Service, Central Election Commission, Audiovisual Council, Superior Council of Magistracy, Superior Council of Prosecutors and civil society.
The Republic of Moldova has been a member state of the Council of Europe since 1995.
