President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu participated today in an event - Be Pro! Choose to be a Teacher!, organized as part of Education Week. She delivered a message to the over 3,000 young people present at the event, encouraging them to choose the teaching profession.
“I encouraged them to stay in the Republic of Moldova and choose the teaching profession. I was very pleased to see how enthusiastically a few young teachers spoke to the graduates. I urge you to listen to their speeches, they bring optimism and hope for the future,” the president said.
Maia Sandu also highlighted the support provided to young people opting for a teaching career, mentioning the doubling of scholarships for pedagogy students – from 1,600 to 3,460 lei, a 200,000 lei allowance for those who go to teach in localities across the country, as well as covering rental and utility expenses.
“We need good teachers everywhere. We thank the teachers whose immense dedication we all rely on, but especially whose goodwill and patience build the future of this country,” concluded the president.
The event was held as part of the second edition of Education Week, launched by the Ministry of Education and Research. During this edition, dozens of events with current topics in education were organized for educators, managers of institutions, students, pupils, and parents. Education Week concludes today.
The event took place with the support of the Improving Quality of Education Project, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research with funding from the World Bank and with the contribution of UNFPA.
