Speaker: Romania won and elected president who supports European path and Moldova
Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated Romanian citizens on both sides of the Prut River on the election of a new President of Romania. "Romania has won. It has elected a President who supports the European path and backs the Republic of Moldova. Our future is common. Let's not let anyone divide us".
The speaker reiterated the importance of the European integration process for our country and noted that Moldovans have once again demonstrated that they care about our common future and want to be part of democracy, peace, and the free world.
"We, Moldovans, know very well what it's like to always be blackmailed by an aggressor state. What it's like to be left without light and heat in the middle of winter. How propaganda tries day by day, year after year, to turn us against each other. That's why I am happy because, despite this unprecedented interference, they have succeeded, democracy has prevailed. Congratulations!" Grosu said.
He said that there are forces in Chisinau and Bucharest trying to divide us.
"Their message comes from the Kremlin. The purpose? To turn us against each other. But the Romanian people have shown that they are stronger than fear. More united than propaganda. Our future is common. Let's not let anyone divide us," Grosu concluded.
Today, the Constitutional Court of Romania validated the result of the presidential elections, and in the next 24 hours Nicușor Dan is expected to take the oath.
Also today, Nicușor Dan stated to the Romanian press that the main goal of the Republic of Moldova is integration into the EU, and Bucharest has a pre-accession experience it can share.
On Sunday, the runoff presidential elections took place in Romania. Two candidates, Nicușor Dan and George Simion, competed for the presidency. In this election, over 158,000 Romanians from the Republic of Moldova voted. Most voters cast their vote for Nicușor Dan, who received 88% or 138,320 of the votes cast by voters in our country. George Simion received 18,868 votes or 12%.
Voters from the Republic of Moldova were among the most active in the Romanian presidential election, alongside those from countries such as Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and Spain.
