Prime Minister attends KEDEM Jewish Community Center anniversary event
Prime Minister Dorin Recean participated in an anniversary event organized by KEDEM Jewish Community Center, marking 20 years of activity. He noted that the Center has become known throughout the country for its activities, not only for the Jewish community in the Republic of Moldova but also for all the youth in our country.
“I am glad that you promote Jewish traditions and thus directly contribute to the ethnocultural diversity of the Republic of Moldova, one of the greatest riches of our state. KEDEM is not just a center; it is a true symbol of unity and dialogue between our cultures. This space has been and remains a pillar of education, solidarity and peace, contributing to the consolidation of Jewish identity and the promotion of young talents. And I sincerely hope that all ethnic and linguistic communities in our country will follow your example,” said the prime minister.
Kedem activities focus on four main programs: youth, volunteering, educational and event organization. In education, the Center offers courses in English, Hebrew, and Romanian, courses in social media management, programming, or 3D, and sports sections for children and adolescents - martial arts, table tennis, choreography.
In the volunteering sector, KEDEM has developed one of the most active organizations in Moldova - the Republican Volunteer Center. Additionally, with the support of Jacobs family (USA), the Claims Conference and the Federation of Jewish Communities of Toronto (Canada), the historical building of one of the oldest synagogues in Chișinău - Lemnăria, built in 1835, was restored. The event was attended by the center's founder, American businessman and philanthropist Irwin Jacobs, returning to Moldova after 13 years.
As a sign of appreciation for the activities, Recean presented on behalf of President Maia Sandu the Order of Honor and urged KEDEM Center to continue its work for Jewish youth, children and adolescents. During the period of activity, the Center has carried out over 1300 cultural and communication events attended by about 100,000 people, over 220 youth programs and 360 volunteer programs.
KEDEM Jacobs JCC is the largest Jewish ethnocultural center in Moldova, founded in 2005 with the support of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).
