Nicușor Dan reaffirms Romania's support for Moldova's European path
Romania has pre-accession experience that it can share with the Republic of Moldova, whose main objective is integration into the European Union. Newly elected President of Romania Nicușor Dan made the statements today.
“Romania's policy towards the Republic of Moldova has been the correct policy. We have an energy partnership that has reduced the Republic of Moldova's energy dependence on the Russian Federation. Now, in my opinion, the main objective of the Republic of Moldova is integration into the European Union. There is a timeline until 2030 that Romania must support, both diplomatically and operationally. We have a pre-accession experience that we can share with the Republic of Moldova,” Nicușor Dan told the Romanian press.
The elected president also emphasized the need to expand energy connectivity with the Republic of Moldova.
“It is necessary to expand energy connectivity with the Republic of Moldova. It is necessary to expand transport network connectivity with the Republic of Moldova. It is also necessary, and has been proposed for a long time, to establish economic connectivity through an investment guarantee fund for Romanian investments in the Republic of Moldova,” said the elected president.
Nicușor Dan also highlighted two functional issues, particularly referring to the time spent in customs between the two states and the process of obtaining Romanian citizenship.
“Talking to Romanians living in Bessarabia, we have two functional issues, seemingly trivial, the time spent in customs between the two states and the process of obtaining Romanian citizenship. These two issues need to be resolved. And, of course, cultural and academic exchanges should continue, perhaps at a higher level than before,” said Nicușor Dan.
Nicușor Dan also said that the first country he would like to visit as head of state is the Republic of Moldova. According to him, such a decision has symbolic significance.
In the Republic of Moldova, over 158,000 Romanians voted in the Romanian presidential elections, marking a historic voter turnout. Most voters cast their ballots for independent candidate Nicușor Dan.
The Constitutional Court of Romania validated today the result of the presidential elections.
