PM at international conference on 30th anniversary of Constitutional Court
On the verge of opening accession negotiations with the European Union, the Republic of Moldova needs more than ever a strong constitutional justice system to ensure the protection of fundamental rights and the alignment of legislation with European standards. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement at the international conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitutional Court (CC) of the Republic of Moldova.
The official appreciated the three-decade activity of the CC, emphasizing that, in the context of Moldova's transformation and rapprochement with the EU, the institution plays an essential role, being the guarantor that our reforms are supported by the solid foundation of the rule of law. At the same time, Recean highlighted the threats to democracy and the difficult task of constitutional judges.
'The consolidation of the rule of law is a collective effort. Moldova, as part of the European family, takes on this effort with full responsibility, with the Constitutional Court being a pillar of stability on our path to Europe,' he said.
Recean expressed gratitude for the support provided by European institutions in reforming justice. 'Our European future is a shared one, and it begins with the rule of law,' the official said.
The event is organized with the support of the Council of Europe, within the Joint Project of the European Union and the Council of Europe 'Support for justice reform in the Republic of Moldova, providing a platform for in-depth discussions on the pressing issues faced by European constitutional courts, including the complex legal, political, and social dynamics that influence their activity.
