Moldovan government initiates negotiations for opening road crossing point at Moldova-Ukraine border
The government today ruled to initiate negotiations and approve the protocol for opening the Cosauti–Yampil road crossing point at the border between Moldova and Ukraine. It will have international status and will facilitate citizens’ mobility, support trade exchanges and improve direct connections between Moldovan and Ukrainian settlements.
At the government meeting, Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin, said that the draft’s aim was to establish the necessary bilateral international legal framework for setting up the Cosauti-Yampil state border road crossing point between Moldova and Ukraine, with a status open to international traffic.
‘’The new crossing point will enhance cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova and will bring benefits to citizens and economic agents by reducing waiting time at the border crossing point, improving the flow of people and goods, facilitating cross-border mobility, contributing to deeper economic and social integration between the two states,’’ said the minister.
The agreement between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine on the state border crossing points and the simplification of border crossing formalities for residents living in border districts was signed on March 11, 1997.
